Book Celebration, Audiobook Launch & Premiere of Wekweètì and Ekwǫ̀

We are doing two live events to celebrate Journal of a Travelling Girl, the launch of its audiobook and a screening of Neema’s short film Wekweètì and Ekwǫ̀ (Wekweètì and Caribou). The Yellowknife event will also be streamed live on facebook.

Nadine Neema will be in conversation with Tammy Steinwand, Tłı̨chǫ Government Culture and Lands Protection Director, to celebrate Neema’s historical fiction youth novel and audiobook Journal of a Travelling Girl, and to watch the premiere of her short film Wekweètì and Ekwǫ̀ (Wekweètì and Caribou). Neema recently completed this film from footage she took between 2000 and 2002 in Wekweètì and on the land, which features the late Elders Alexis Arrowmaker and Mary Adele Eyakfwo telling old time stories of how they grew up on the land and why they settled in Wekweètì. It was edited by Myriam Tremblay-Sher.

The Yellowknife event will take place on April 22nd at 1:30pm MST at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. It will also be streamed live at www.facebook.com/nadineneema
1:30pm : Tłı̨chǫ drummers feeding the fire ceremony outside the Heritage Centre
2:00 – 3:30 pm: Conversation, readings, songs and screening of short film

The Montreal Event will take place at the McCord Stewart Museum Theatre at 2pm EST.
